A Guide To Getting Married At
Chelsea Old Town Hall

You’re Getting Married In Chelsea, Let That Sink In

Chelsea Old Town Hall
Wedding Photographer

You step out of the taxi onto the King’s Road. The late-Victorian facade of Chelsea Old Town Hall is ahead of you, with granite columns, marble floors, and that famous staircase.

Red buses and black cabs passing behind your guests. The whole of Chelsea as your backdrop.

This is the version of your wedding day you pictured when you first started imagining it. An iconic London building. One of the most sought-after addresses in the city.

A ceremony room that has hosted some of the most famous weddings in British history, Pierce Brosnan, Hugh Grant, Bobby Moore, and Marc Bolan all said their vows here.

And then after the ceremony, the confetti falls on those steps, and the whole of Chelsea opens up around you.

Chelsea Old Town Hall is not a grand country estate or a sprawling hotel. It is something different: a genuinely iconic London wedding, smaller in scale, enormous in atmosphere, perfectly positioned for a celebration that spills into one of the city’s best neighbourhoods.

I love photographing weddings here. The light, the location, the intimacy of the rooms, and the staircase afterwards. Every wedding here feels like it belongs entirely to the couple who chose it.

My approach to wedding photography is all about real moments between people, and Chelsea Old Town Hall gives you the space for those moments to unfold naturally.

Photographing Weddings At Chelsea Old Town Hall

I arrive before your guests do.

I know which moment to anticipate so that when it happens, I am already in position, and I know that the registrars here actively support photography throughout the ceremony.

They understand that these are the photographs you will keep forever, and they give you space to capture them properly.

After the ceremony, those steps on the King’s Road are yours. The width of the steps, the height of the building behind, the King’s Road stretching away in both directions. It photographs beautifully with any number of guests and any amount of confetti. More is always better.

Then we walk. St Luke’s Gardens is five minutes from the ceremony room and almost always quiet, with the old stone church as the backdrop, the same church where Charles Dickens married in 1836.

Dovehouse Green is two minutes in the other direction, a quiet pocket of green that most guests have never noticed.

And then there is the King’s Road itself, black cabs, red buses, Georgian terraces and independent shops that make Chelsea feel completely different from any other part of London and fifteen to twenty minutes away from your guests, just the two of you, in the neighbourhood you chose for this day. These are almost always the photographs you will treasure most.

I work quietly, without ever becoming part of what is happening. My job is simply to be present for all of it.

Getting Ready – Where To Base Yourself

Chelsea Old Town Hall does not have on-site accommodation or dedicated getting-ready rooms. This is a register office and event venue, not a hotel, which means you get to choose where your morning begins. And in this part of London, your options are extraordinary.

The most popular choice for wedding couples is to get ready at one of the iconic hotels just minutes from the venue, arriving at Chelsea Old Town Hall composed, unhurried and exactly as you imagined.

The Cadogan, A Belmond Hotel – Sloane Street, 5 minutes walk. One of the most beautiful boutique hotels in London, with a history that includes Oscar Wilde and Lillie Langtry. The suites here are exceptional for getting-ready photography.

The Sloane Square Hotel – Sloane Square, 7 minutes walk. Stylish, well-positioned and a favourite for wedding parties. The rooms are well-proportioned, and the proximity to the venue makes the morning feel completely relaxed.

The Draycott Hotel – Cadogan Gardens, 8 minutes walk. One of Chelsea’s best-kept secrets. Thirteen individually designed suites overlooking a private garden square. The kind of place that makes getting-ready photographs look effortless.

The Sloane Club – Lower Sloane Street, 10 minutes walk. A private members club with guest rooms and a warm, residential feel. Perfect if you want something intimate rather than hotel-formal.

The groom and groomsmen can head to breakfast at the Bluebird on the King’s Road or The Botanist on Sloane Square, which is exactly the kind of Chelsea morning a wedding like this deserves.

The Ceremony Spaces

Choosing Where You Say I Do

There are six licensed rooms at Chelsea Old Town Hall, ranging from the most intimate ceremony imaginable, just the two of you and your witnesses, to a full celebration with 340 guests.
Here is how to picture yourself in each one.

The Brydon Room

This is the room most couples at Chelsea Old Town Hall choose, and it is easy to see why. Up to 38 guests, cream walls since its 2025 refurbishment, large windows flooding the room with natural daylight and warm wooden architectural details that make every photograph look considered rather than accidental.

The Brydon Room is where royalty and celebrities have quietly married. You will feel that history in the room without it overwhelming the day.

The Harrington Room

Up to 8 guests. The most intimate ceremony in London. Just the two of you, your witnesses and the people who matter most.

The Small Hall

Up to 140 guests for a ceremony, with a Minstrels’ Gallery, coved ceiling, decorative carved crests and an ornate fireplace.

The Rossetti Room

There is something about a ceremony in a room this small that makes every person in it feel genuinely essential to the moment.

The Main Hall

For larger ceremonies of up to 340 guests. Vaulted ceiling, grand granite and marble columns, ornate cherub-clad covings and original oil paintings.

The Cadogan Suite

or ceremonies for up to 116 guests, with powder-blue walls and a grand fireplace. Softer in feel than either of the main halls, with total decorative freedom, you can dress it however you like.

Your Reception

The Best of Chelsea On Your Doorstep

Chelsea Old Town Hall does not have its own reception space, unlike a country house venue.

What it has instead is something better, the whole neighbourhood at your feet.

If you want the full venue experience with dinner and dancing, book the Main Hall or Small Hall exclusively. The Main Hall seats 180 for a dinner reception with a sprung wooden dancefloor and a stage for your band. The Small Hall accommodates 180 for a reception. Both can be dressed exactly as you want.

The venue works with approved caterers and will discuss external caterers where needed.

For couples who prefer to take the celebration out into Chelsea after the ceremony, the options are among the best in London.

Bluebird Chelsea – King’s Road, 2 minutes’ walk. One of Chelsea’s most celebrated restaurants. Private dining for smaller groups, the whole restaurant for larger celebrations.

The Cadogan, A Belmond Hotel – 5 minutes walk. The Belmond restaurant and private dining rooms are exceptional for wedding breakfasts that feel genuinely special.

Rabbit Chelsea – King’s Road, 4 minutes walk. Relaxed, seasonal and very Chelsea. Popular for informal post-ceremony lunches with a smaller group.

The Botanist – Sloane Square, 7 minutes walk. Large enough for a full party, beautifully styled, and with a private-event offering.

Peggy Porschen – Ebury Street, 12-minute walk. If the celebration calls for cake and champagne somewhere beautiful, this is the answer.
