A Guide To Getting Married At
Chandragiri Hills Resort
Picture Your Wedding Above The Clouds
Chandragiri Hills Resort Wedding Photography
The cable car leaves the valley floor and begins its 10-minute ascent.
Kathmandu shrinks below.
Pine trees line both sides as you ascend. At 2,551 metres, Chandragiri Hills Resort comes into view, sitting on a hilltop with the whole Himalayan range stretching across the northern horizon.
Everest, Manaslu, Ganesh, and Gaurishankar appear one after another on a clear morning, making people pause and take in the view.
This is where your wedding happens. It’s not just near the mountains or with a mountain view. You are part of the landscape shaped by the peaks, above the clouds, with the Kathmandu Valley below.
I photographed a Hindu Newari wedding here, and I have not stopped thinking about it since.
My approach to wedding photography is all about real moments between people, and Northbrook Park gives you the space for those moments to unfold naturally.

Photographing A Wedding At Chandragiri Hills Resort
I do not arrive at a wedding with a list. I arrive having already understood what this day means to you, and at Chandragiri Hills, that understanding begins with the landscape itself.|
The poolside ceremony at sunrise, when the peaks catch the first light and the Mandap is still in shade.
The cable car arrival of the guests, the gondolas appearing one by one through the forest below. The sound of the basuri flutes carries across the hilltop as the ceremony begins.
The Mandap stands alone against the mountains, clean, simple, and completely extraordinary.
High-altitude morning light in Nepal is unlike any I have photographed in Europe, clear, directional, and with a particular quality that makes every image from the early hours of a Chandragiri Hills wedding day look as though it were taken as a film still rather than a documentary photograph.
,The portrait walks along the ridge trail in the late morning, with the Kathmandu Valley visible on one side and the Himalayan range on the other. The evening reception as the mountains disappear into dusk and the valley lights begin to glow below.
A wedding at Chandragiri Hills is one of the most visually extraordinary events I will photograph.

Why Couples Choose A
Chandagiri Hills Resort Wedding
The Himalayas
Not a view of the Himalayas from a distance.
The Himalayas, as the actual backdrop to your vows, with Everest, Manaslu, Ganesh, and Gaurishankar visible from the ceremony space on a clear day.
There is no wedding venue anywhere in the world that offers this.
Complete Wedding Weekend
Hiking trails, ziplines, wall climbing, a spa, an infinity pool, and an observatory with telescope views of the peaks.
Chandragiri Hills gives guests a reason to arrive two days before and leave two days after.

The Cable Car Arrival
Your guests board the cherry red gondolas at the base of the hill and ascend through the pine forest to the resort above.
The journey itself is 10 minutes; the valley below and the peaks appearing above are part of the experience. No bus journey, no car park.
The Bhaleshwor Mahadev Temple
The ancient Hindu temple adjacent to the resort holds spiritual significance that lends a particular meaning to ceremonies at Chandragiri Hills that no European venue can match.
For Hindu and Newari couples, beginning the wedding day with a blessing here is part of what makes this place entirely singular.

We are both completely in love with these photographs, thank you so much for capturing our magical day!
You’ve been amazing to us. Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity.

Getting Ready At Chandragiri Hills Resort
Getting ready happens within the resort itself. The rooms, from Deluxe and Executive through to the Suite and Presidential Suite, all open to either the Himalayan panorama to the north or the rolling hills and deep valleys to the south.
Every window is a view worth waking up to.
For the most special start to the wedding morning, the Presidential Suite provides a retreat that genuinely matches the occasion, space, luxury and the mountains visible from the balcony before the day has properly begun.
The resort’s spa is available for treatments the morning of or the day before.
The infinity pool, the outdoor heated jacuzzi, the hiking trails through the surrounding forest, and the Chandragiri Hills turn a wedding into a full weekend that guests are in no rush to leave.
From a photography perspective, getting ready within the resort means the morning unfolds entirely within the landscape.
The light through the room windows, the mountains visible behind the balcony, the complete absence of anywhere to rush to, and the getting-ready photographs from Chandragiri Hills are some of the most naturally beautiful I have taken at any venue in the world.

The Ceremony & Reception Spaces
Chandragiri Hills Resort offers both indoor and outdoor spaces for ceremonies and receptions, with the outdoor options being the most visually extraordinary at any wedding venue I have worked in.
The Poolside Mandap
The ceremony space that defines a Chandragiri Hills wedding. The Mandap platform is built partially over the infinity pool, with the shimmering water as the immediate backdrop and the Himalayan peaks visible through the structure above. The white fabric, the white flowers, the clean simplicity of the design, and through it all, the mountains.
At the wedding I photographed here, the basuri flutes played as the couple exchanged vows, with Everest visible on the horizon. There are no words for what that combination produces.
Outdoor Terrace and Lawn
The resort’s terrace looks out across the Kathmandu Valley to the south with the Himalayan range to the north. An outdoor ceremony here places the couple at the meeting point of those two views. The light at this elevation is extraordinary, clean, high-altitude and directional in a way that lowland venues cannot replicate.
Mountain Top Gazebos
For intimate ceremonies. Positioned at the summit with the panoramic backdrop behind, the gazebos suit smaller gatherings where the landscape is invited to be the ceremony’s defining presence rather than its backdrop.
Indoor Banquet Spaces
For evening receptions or celebrations that need to be weather-proof. The resort’s indoor event spaces carry the same quality of Himalayan views through large windows, so the landscape is never entirely left behind even when the celebration moves inside.
Staying At And Getting To Chandragiri Hills Resort
The resort has Standard, Deluxe, Executive, Suite and Presidential Suite rooms. Most look directly onto the Himalayan range. Those that face south open to rolling hills and the Kathmandu Valley. All are spacious, well-appointed and designed for a stay that matches the landscape outside.
The cable car is the way to arrive. The base station is in Thankot, on the western edge of Kathmandu, approximately 30-40 minutes by car from Tribhuvan International Airport, depending on traffic.
The 10-minute cable car ride from the base to the summit is part of the experience and the most dramatic arrival of any venue I know anywhere in the world.
For the wedding party, the resort arranges cable car access and can coordinate group transport from Kathmandu.

The Best Time Of Year
Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are the two prime windows for a Chandragiri Hills wedding. Both offer the clearest skies, the most reliable mountain visibility and the most pleasant temperatures at altitude.
Spring brings rhododendron blooms across the hillsides and the particular quality of Himalayan light in March and April. Autumn delivers the crisp clarity of post-monsoon air, with the peaks at their most visible and the valley at its most atmospheric.
Winter (December to February) is cold at 2,551 metres but produces extraordinarily clear conditions and dramatically beautiful photography. The snow on the peaks is at its most vivid.
The monsoon season (June to August) brings clouds and rain that can obscure the mountain views. Worth avoiding unless a misty, forest atmosphere is specifically what you are looking for.extraordinarilyclouds

QUESTIONS?
01 / Do International Couples Need A Wedding Planner For Nepal?
Yes. The legal requirements for marrying in Nepal involve advance documentation and registration with the relevant authorities. A local planner with Chandragiri Hills experience is essential. The resort’s dedicated wedding planning team can coordinate every element of the celebration.
03 / Is The Cable Car The Only Way To Reach The Resort?
The cable car is by far the best way to arrive and is the recommended option for wedding guests. A road route to the hilltop exists for those who prefer not to use the cable car, but the aerial approach is part of what makes Chandragiri Hills unique.
02 / Can The Ceremony Incorporate Hindu Or Newari Traditions?
Yes. Chandragiri Hills has significant experience with Hindu and Newari wedding ceremonies. The Bhaleshwor Mahadev Temple adjacent to the resort adds a specific spiritual dimension for couples who wish to incorporate a blessing as part of the day.
04. What Is The Mountain Visibility Like?
On a clear day, the resort offers panoramic views of Everest, Manaslu, Ganesh, Gaurishankar and numerous other Himalayan peaks. Spring and autumn offer the most reliably clear conditions. The resort’s observatory with telescope facilities gives guests an extraordinary close-up view of the range.
