A Guide To Getting Married At
Wandsworth Town Hall

One of South London’s Most Beautiful Wedding Venues, Right in the Heart of SW18

first kiss at Wandsworth Town Hall

There is something genuinely special about Wandsworth Town Hall.

It is not trying to impress you. It does not need to.

Opened by Queen Mary in 1937, this Grade II listed building sits at the top of Wandsworth High Street with the quiet confidence of a building that has been important for nearly a century. The art deco design. The grand marble hall. The sweeping staircase. The secluded courtyard with its own fountain.

You arrive, and the occasion already feels significant.

This is not a hired hotel room dressed up with flowers for the weekend. The grandeur here is built in, and it shows in every photograph.

Getting married at Wandsworth Town Hall feels like a proper South London love story.

Reasons To Have A
Wandsworth Town Hall Wedding

Wandsworth Town Hall is one of South West London’s finest buildings and one of the most photographically rewarding registry offices in the city. Built in the 1930s and largely unchanged, it offers architecture, light, and character all in one place, without the price tag of a full wedding venue.

Flexibility

Want a tiny ceremony with just your closest people? Sorted. Want a full room with a hundred guests?

That is on the table too.

With five ceremony rooms of different sizes and styles, you can choose the setting that actually fits your day, not the other way around.

Ceremonies are staggered so you get your moment without feeling rushed by the next couple.

Perfect Photography

The art deco exterior, the marble hall with its sweeping staircase, the secluded courtyard and the fountain. The stepped main entrance.

You have backdrops inside and outside without travelling anywhere.

And if you want to go further, Wandsworth Park is a short walk.

Putney Bridge, the Thames towpath, and the streets of Battersea and Chelsea are all close by. You are genuinely spoilt for options just a short walk away

South West London Location

You are right in the middle of one of London’s most desirable residential areas.

Wandsworth Town station is on your doorstep. East Putney tube is just a mile away.

Guests can get here from across London, or from further afield, without any fuss.

Five Ceremony Rooms

Each room has its own character.

The Grand Chamber is grand by name and by nature.

The Alexandra Room is full of light.

The Victoria Room has a relaxed feel, with guests seated around you rather than in rows.

Award-Winning

Getting Ready For Your Wandsworth Town Hall Wedding

Wandsworth Town Hall does not have on-site accommodation, but you are in South West London, and your options are excellent.

The Petersham Hotel, Richmond, is a short drive away, one of the most elegant hotels in this part of London, with rooms and a setting that make morning photographs effortless.

The Bingham Riverhouse in Richmond sits right on the Thames. The light, the river, the quiet luxury. An exceptional base for your wedding morning.

The Spread Eagle in Wandsworth is a boutique hotel in the area, consistently well reviewed by couples who want to stay close to the venue.

Airbnb in Battersea or Chelsea gives you a home-from-home feel with space for the whole morning, and you are only a short cab ride away.

I can be with you from the morning, photographing the preparations, before we make our way to the Town Hall together.

How To Book Your Wedding At Wandsworth Town Hall

The Practical Part

You can check availability and book directly through the Wandsworth Council website. Room tours are available by appointment, so you can see the spaces before you commit.

You must give notice of intent to marry before your ceremony.

Wandsworth Council recommends doing this well in advance, particularly for popular Saturdays.

Your ceremony planner must be returned to the Register Office no later than two weeks before the ceremony.

On the day, arrive at least 15 minutes before the ceremony start time with your two witnesses for the pre-ceremony interview with the Registrar.

You can book your Wandsworth Town Hall wedding at www.wandsworth.gov.uk.

Photographing At Wandsworth Town Hall

A Wandsworth Town Hall wedding has a particular pace. The ceremony rooms are beautiful but not vast. The moments happen quickly and close together. Being ready for them means knowing the building and understanding how the day flows before it begins.

I arrive before your guests. I know where the light falls in each ceremony room and where to position myself during the vows. I know the marble staircase and the courtyard. I know the surrounding streets and parks for portraits once it is all done.

The photographs you will still reach for in twenty years are the ones nobody staged. Those are the ones I am here for.

QUESTIONS?

01 / Do you photograph micro weddings too?

Absolutely. Whether you are planning a civil ceremony, a civil partnership, a vow renewal or a small celebration with a handful of people, Wandsworth Town Hall is a beautiful setting for all of it.

03 / Can you hold our wedding date until we decide?

Unfortunately not. With spots reserved for a maximum of 20 couples per year, to ensure every wedding receives my fullest heart and dedication, bookings are on a first-come, first-served basis.

05 / Can we play our own music?

Yes. You can choose music for your entrance and during the signing of the register. Each room has a music system with multi-functional output, and you can bring music on Bluetooth, CD, USB or MP3.

07 / Can we have confetti and group photographs outside?

Yes. After the ceremony you have access to the marble hall, the garden and the secluded courtyard with its fountain and imposing main entrance, perfect for confetti and group photographs.

09 / What time do we need to arrive?

Arrive at least 15 minutes before the ceremony with your two witnesses for the pre-ceremony interview. If you want portraits in the courtyard first, I suggest arriving a little earlier so we can make the most of the time.

02 / Where are you based? Do you travel?

I am based in Surrey and photograph weddings throughout London, Surrey and across the globe. Get in touch and we can start planning everything.

04 / We love your photographs. How do we book?

Email me at info@amatya.co.uk and I will send you a personalised proposal, my booking fee and a contract. Once that is signed, I will walk you through everything.

06 / Can we read our own vows?

Yes. Many couples choose to write and read their own vows for their Wandsworth Town Hall wedding, in the Grand Chamber, Alexandra Room, Victoria Room and Mayor’s Parlour.

08 / Can we have photographs around the Town Hall?

Absolutely. Many couples include this as part of their coverage, and the building gives you so many options, inside and out.

10 / Are there accessible facilities?

Yes. Speak to a member of staff on the day and they will help you.

Where To Park For Your Wandsworth Town Hall Wedding

There’s a dedicated drop-off/pick-up spot right outside The Old Marylebone Town Hall, but you cannot wait there indefinitely.

For guests, there’s nearby parking with a multi-story car park opposite The Old Marylebone Town Hall. Paid parking bays are available surrounding the Town Hall, but spaces are limited and subject to restrictions.
