Nepalese Wedding Photography
Nepalese Wedding Photography. The bride and groom held a traditional Hindu wedding at the Bharat Hindu Samaj Community Centre in Peterborough.
A Day Of Colour And Energy
As a Surrey Wedding Photographer, I have photographed several Hindu Weddings in the Home Counties and beyond. So I was well prepared for the saturation of colour that the day would bring. And I wasn’t disappointed.
The community centre looked enchanting, decorated with draped fabrics and vibrant bunting. And the guests brought a real sense of occasion to the party in materials of just about every colour imaginable.
But none could detract from the bride’s traditional flame-red outfit, decorated with an elegant floral pattern and adorned with sequins.
Even the date and time of the ceremony was steeped in tradition, as the groom’s horoscope determined it.
A Hindu wedding ceremony is a long and intricate event, packed with symbolic meaning. The fire plays a crucial role in the service, bearing witness to the union.
During the Nepalese Wedding ceremony, the intended couple hold hands together and take seven steps towards to fire to cement the union before the fire-deity.
The ceremony was performed in ancient Sanskrit by a Hindu priest. Luckily, the bride and groom had a wealth of relatives on hand to guide them through by whispering instructions into their ears.
Just as in Western weddings an exchange of rings signifies the moment of marriage.
When Anish sprinkled Sindoor on Sukriti’s forehead, the ritual marked the beginning of their married life.
They then exchanged garlands, and the groom gave his bride a ‘potte’, a long green piece of jewellery that can only be worn by married women.
And Then The Tears
After putting in a stoic performance throughout the formal ceremony, the emotion finally got the better of the bride, groom, friends and family. The outpouring of joy and happiness was touching to watch and a privilege to photograph.
A big thanks to Chuck for assisting me.
Many thanks to Sukriti and Anish for allowing me to photograph their wedding, and I wish them every happiness in the future.
